“CASELA” vs Christian America

Conflicted Atheists, Secularists and Embittered Liberals Of AmericaThis is the first of a three articles focusing on the constituents of the increasingly powerfulanti-Christian lobby in America. These people are deeply committed, well financed and are receiving increasing support, not only from our judiciary, but also from our elected officials.

Part one focuses on the atheist contingent of the anti-Christian lobby. These “conflicted atheists” may be the most rabid members of this coalition, but some rational analysis of their behavior, and the atheist premise itself, brings into question the actual motivation behind their obsession.

This should also be considered a reflective read for professed atheists. After all, what could there possibly be to fear?

Though named in honor of a saint, March 17th has basically become an excuse for a national party. But March seems a long way off and the handwriting on the wall is becoming ominously clear. So, Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone- while still legal to say so.

Somewhere on the ACLU agenda is the goal of forcing the nation to hoist it’s green beer in honor of “Irish Heritage Day”. St Pat is probably safe for a little while. But as Merry Christmas continues to take on the connotation of “hate speech” and the Easter bunny is driven to extinction by the “spring bunny”, it is merely a matter of time until the patron saint of Ireland will also be declared “offensive”, “divisive” and, of course, “unconstitutional”.

The war against God and Christianity in America is progressing. The Ten Commandments have been removed from the courthouse, nativity scenes driven from the town square and Christmas carols banned in the schools. Currently before the courts is a third attempt to have the national motto “In God We Trust” declared unconstitutional. In one of Christian America’s few victories in this war, it literally took an act of congress to preserve a symbolic cross in a national war memorial that one lone atheist found offensive. (See Preserving The Cross At The Soledad National War Memorial)

In any conflict it is important to understand the opposition. With Christians comprising some 80% of our population, the opposition’s primary hope for victory lays in waging the war in the courts. In the opposition vanguard is the ACLU. The ACLU wages a perpetual war against America in general. America, and the foundations of its government, are rooted in a Judeo-Christian belief in God. Ergo, the ACLU sees religion expression, and especially Christianity, as an enemy.

But the knights in flaming armor can’t just march into court and demand an end to freedom of religious expression. They need the pretext of defending the rights of an aggrieved client. And in the case against God, the aggrieved client consists of Conflicted Atheists, Secularists & Embittered Liberals of America- a group we have given the space saving acronym CASELA. Let’s examine each constituent group in this relentless minority coalition so we can better understand their particular motivations.

Conflicted Atheists
By definition, an atheist knows that there is no God. To an intellectually honest atheist, God should be a non issue. Why would an atheist waste a hoot or a holler over God being mentioned in any context? At worst, true atheists should view God’s followers in the same light as preschoolers who believe in the tooth fairy.

Yet some self-professed atheists seem compulsively obsessed with God. The mere possibility that they, or anyone else in American society, could be exposed to a reference to God, or a symbol of the Christian Faith, seems overwhelmingly unbearable to them. It’s rather hilarious to watch ACLU lawyers and their atheist clients literally turn purple with rage when a television interviewer asks a “why is this so important to you?” type of question.

These people are so consumed with their obsession that they cannot see the obvious- they doth protest far too much. There is clearly more to militant atheist rage than lofty constitutional idealism. These people are conflicted.

The conflict may be spiritual, intellectual or more likely a combination of the two.

Um, an atheist experiencing spiritual conflict? Absolutely. Every human being is a child of God, given the gift of life with an immortal soul. And no matter how loudly the individual may deny the existence of God the Creator, the soul remains. The turmoil that drives obsessive atheists may very well be the result of an inner conflict of the soul yearning for the God that the atheist mind denies. Once heard, that inner cry for God’s love and salvation is not easily tuned out. So the denial of God progresses from a philosophical point of view to a consuming rage, directed toward anyone or anything exhibiting a profession of faith. Professed atheism aside, these people are experiencing spiritual conflict.

Atheism is considered to be an intellectual concept. A logical, rational thought process supposedly leads to the conclusion that there just cannot be a God. But any atheist reexamining this well worn hypothesis, with true intellectual honesty, is faced with intellectual conflict, not conclusion.

By what scientific principle can one disprove the existence of a Creator of the universe? None. Analogies to fairy tales and childhood beliefs are groundless. The tooth fairy can be disproved, because eventually we understand how the dollar gets under the pillow. But life and our universe are reality, and no one can prove how it has all come to be. If there was a “big bang”, something, or Someone, had to precipitate it.

The atheist premise can only be opinion, never proven fact. Thus the premise itself is an intellectual conflict that undermines the spoken conviction.

Just experiencing daily life conflicts with atheism, on both the spiritual and intellectual levels. The beauty and logical complexity of our world literally scream out “Intelligent Design“. Deny all you want, but life itself says otherwise.

So understand, many militant atheists are merely conflicted human beings, overwhelmingly driven by a need to keep convincing themselves.

Never the less, militant atheists are quite serious about removing any expression of religion, with an emphasis on Christianity, from public life in America. We will focus on what Christian America can do to stand up for our rights of religious expression in the third article of this series. Eighty-some percent of America’s population profess faith in Jesus Christ. All we need do is stand together in His name.
